![]() ![]() But it was so fun to have units that would feel like legends. I know its probably not something that would be balanced in this game. Eador genesis new horizons mod#I’ve always wanted to find some way to mod AoW so that every unit could level indefinitely like that. I’d let him get taken down to about half and have my mage hero cast an armor/magic resist buff on him that would turn him simi-invulnerable, he would then go berserk and one shot any unit that wasnt a tank unit or 2 tiers higher than him. When Barbarians have lower health, they do more damage, so because he was so tanky, he barely ever really took large amounts of damage. He became so powerful he was basically a hero. I once had a barbarian unit that hit level 20+ with most of his levelups spent on making him tankier. Just have to throw out a hilarious story about Eador that made me fall in love with the game. I do very much like it that the turn based strategy genre, which at one point seemed positively on its deathbed, is experiencing such a resurgence now. In no other game that I have played is it possible to get a random event where a farmer gives you a herd of goats and then you can give one of the goats intelligence and through ritual use of magical resources give it enough power to put out the sun, bring eternal winter to the world or raise a second sun to the sky.ĪoW has also an immense amount of lore and while AoW also deals with the fate of nations and races, the scale feels far more close and intimate and is expressed very much through characters (starting with the original AoW campaigns). Some of my most favorite mechanics in it are the province based maps, magic sites in provinces and the endless variety of things you can do. It is not standard fantasy, since nearly everything is based on actual mythologies. The lore in it is more in the epic scale of entire nations and their histories throughout ages lasting in total some thousands of years, with very few individual characters standing out. I liked it a lot.ĭominions is still the undisputed king of content in the amount of lore, nations, units etc, but it is very much a love it or hate it game for many and definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. Warlords was a very easy, very straightforward game to get into and it has always had a very deep influence on me. Probably due to how the MotBW beta process went. Eador has many excellent concepts, but after an initial spurt of interest, it soured on me. HoMM was immersive for a long time, but HoMM4 broke a lot of things tha took a long time to fix and while HoMM5 is nice enough, it has some of its own complications which led me to not like it as much as the earlier ones. ![]() Of them all, AoW1 and Dominions have sucked me in the worst and never let go. Of all of these before AoW3, my favorites are (in no particular order of preference) AoW1, Warlords 2 & 3, MoM, HoMM 2 & 3 and the Dominions series, particularly the latest one. ![]() CoE3 and Dom4 came out in the past two years, so they count as modern in one sense, even though they look like late 1990s games. Those are all from Illwinter Game Design and while they are graphically fairly primitive, they have quite a bit of content and depth. Eador genesis new horizons series#The Dominions series (have played all of them) and its far lesser known little brother Conquest of Elysium 3 are missing from your original list. I have Disciples 1 and 2 through GOG, but never got around to playing with them. I am just curious about your experiences, opinions, attitudes and wishes.Īnd, yes, an AoW III – forum is the right place to discuss that, because the Devs can draw much out of it for future product improvement, I am sure. The best features of all the aforementioned games combined would probably make all of us happy. Who played what and enjoyed or hated it because of what. My current feeling is that we never in the last 20 odd years had as many worthy choices of pretty recent modern Fantasy TBS games available (and some without Fantasy setting), I would like to include: pp.įor me it all started in 1990 with Warlords I. Magic and wizards and artifacts and dragons and elfs etc. 30 wishlist games found in available bundles. We are talking about TBS games here, right? ![]()
